Not every interview is created equal, and it isn’t often that you truly get to see the interviewees personality shine through. That’s why this interview with Laganja Estranja for Gay Star News in London is so spectacular. Laganja Estranja is known for many things, but she breaks down some key moments in her life recently and gets personal about her ambitions for the future. You do not want to miss out on this interview.
Laganja begins by talking about life after Drag Race. Laganja Estranja famously appeared on Season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, but their career is so much more than that now.
“’Now the show’s on Netflix, people are watching it for the first time’, the nonbinary star points out. ‘It’s something I’ve realized I’m going to have to relive my whole life.’”
Despite having worked with Artists like Miley Cyrus & Brooke Candy, having cannabis brand collaboration deals, hosting dance masterclasses across the globe and appearing in countless television shows both as Jay Jackson and Laganja Estranja — Laganja oftentimes finds herself still overshadowed by her appearance on Drag Race all those years ago.
Laganja Estranja is notoriously resilient, however. Though she acknowledges the challenges ahead, she talks about building her career and her brand.
“As an artist I like to change things; be constantly evolving. One reason people have attached to me since RPDR is, I’m constantly trying to better myself. I’m not afraid to fall down in public. I’ve tried a lot of things. Make up lines. Jewelry. Dance classes. Some things have been more successful than others. But because I’ve been playing Twister – one hand here, one hand there; shows, modeling, doing it all at once – it’s made it hard to succeed hugely in one area.”
Laganja doesn’t explicitly mention what her next career move will be, but suggests she will continue her work towards greatness in two areas she is well-known for: dance and cannabis advocacy.
In fact, she goes on to talk about her present brand collaboration with cannabis company FRUIT SLABS for their 2019 PRIDE collection.
“My edible’s coming out. What’s unique about what I’m doing with Fruit Slabs is it’s not just going to be available for one month. Pride should be celebrated year-round. We’re still working on which charity we’re donating to. But absolutely, we’ll be giving back to the community. What also makes our edible the best is we’re not a gummy. We’re all-natural, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free… I’m proud. It’s the partnership I’ve been looking for.”
Will Laganja Estranja be on All Stars?
Laganja Estranja closes out the interview with Gay Star News by talking All Stars, even spilling some tea about the behind-the-scenes aspects of casting and production. Would Laganja Estranja ever go on All Stars?
“My answer’s always been no. I’ll be quite honest. It was quite traumatic. I haven’t wanted to put myself in that position.”
